Lucky me, I married a madman! |
boat

This baby (well, not this one, but one just like her) is going to be shipped from Florida to Italy in June-July. We are going to pick her up upon arrival, and sail back home to Israel. I have never been to Italy before. We might be in need of another skipper (don’t look at me like that, I know nothing about sailing). Any suggestions/informed advice/good luck wishes are welcome.

WHoweee….sailing the Med, havent sailed in 30+ years and navigated by using a cheap AM radio to DF KPOI Honalulu, guess you want someone a tad better qualified? Get lots of references, there are too many Captain Rons out there. I am green with envy!

“2nd star to the right and straight until the morning” otherwise you’ll end up in Libya……

Best of luck - you lucky thing

  3. Kevin:

Take sailing lessons, learn how to cook in an extremely confined space, to live without regular showers, to read a chart, and get a good GPS.

  4. Alisa:

Yeah, Libya, not to mention Syria or Lebanon. Husband took lessons and some practice.

OFS: no need to be green, you know you are welcome here any time, sailing or not. Your room is ready!

  5. John Steele:

So I guess you took the sailboat owner exam and passed eh?

I was sailing in Mallorca a few years ago, and the trickiest thing was the med-style mooring. Instead of tying up to the dock, you *slowly and carefully* back the boat in, using a bow anchor to secure that end. Makes very effective use of the dock space, but takes some practice…

It looks like a Bavaria. Some friends of mine just took delivery of a Bavaria 32 and just love it, although they thinking something a little bigger would be nice. They’re easy to sail and very responsive, and the quarters below are well thought out. Enjoy the trip and be safe! I wish I could be sailing with you.

If it doesn’t have a life boats and an mess I’m not interested.

Get some sailing lessons - the sea can be a dangerous place. Especially with large vessels around that expect you to know the rules. (That’s the ones that bother to maintain a watch). Best to hire a skipper, then you can learn during the voyage.
    Nice boat, enjoy !

  10. Alisa:

KB: not a Bavaria, certainly not a 32.

Murray: of course it does. Are you interested?

  11. Murray:

Given my formal qulifications I’m expecting scale pay.

  12. closeapproximation:

Are there pirates in the mediterranean sea ?

    ….just wondering….

  13. Old Fat Sailor:

Nah Murray doesn’t want pay, he just heard about the grog ration.

  14. Murray:

    We call it squirt.

God knows why the crap is thicker than John Kerry. Think of toxic oil and you’re halfway there.

  15. Alisa:

I know not of what you speak - it’s herbal tea for us.

  16. Murray:

Yeah that’ll make you squirt too.
