Oh, come on. It was classic Clinton - although in this case, he did crank it up to about a 10.5 if not an 11. The greatest, smoothest public equivocator of the current American generation just gave another masterful performance - the greatest evidence being that it left otherwise observant people somewhat puzzled, asking “now why in the world did he do that?”

Nobody’s better than Bill to look ya dead in the eye, with just the right patina of faux gravitas while he shovels the baffling bullshit that is carefully blended to be the center of attention. Well, maybe not the center, as long as it has enough of an odor to distract or send whatever discussion he’s trying to derail off on a sufficiently muddled tangent - to the point that most people either tire of following the details (never underestimate the short attention span of a quasi interested public), or will skip all the details except for the sound bite of his lamentations about how unfair it all is, and figure there must be something to it - the “it” being something they’re to busy to really check in to…maybe after “Dancing with the Stars” is over…
And this tangent isn’t even a new one! It’s the standard, spam in a can with a side of projection Vast Right Wing Conspiracy™ tangent!, and how those meanies are trying to pillory Billary! (And by extension, any other Democrat within range).
Which is why I’m confused - as to the seeming confusion by some as to what just happened. we’ve had what, almost 15 years of these plays being run with national coverage - even folks up in the nosebleed section can spot a pass play, usually by midway through the second quarter.
Now, I really, really loathe William Jefferson Clinton, for a long list of reasons - but I’ll give Bubba his due - he knows exactly what he’s doing, and he’s pretty darn good at it - probably one of the best practitioners of public political manipulation that we’re ever likely to see. The ‘edginess’ of personalizing it with Wallace was garnish, the main course of what we’ve just seen was the master giving all of his compadres a fine addition to the noise factory, to befuddle, bamboozle, baffle, and bullshit their way towards the approaching election - vintage Clinton. If you can’t stand toe to toe on the merits, distort the discussion while claiming your opponents are not very nice people, just out to smear ya (while, of course, laying the smear job on thick and heavy yourself). Laying the “well, he hit me first” excuses all ad hominem and personal villification that may follow - even if it’s a total fabrication. Yep, it’s a good week, and the screw top cap is sooo easy to open.
Yep, why the middle and right are confused about this is amazing - the left has already caught the ball, and is looking to run with it. The DNC, the lefty blogs - they’re just getting revved up on this. And they probably won’t put the drum-set away on it, for a while.
Don’t be surprised at all about that.

And, it was delivered with an almost … Nicholsonian intensity…
