With friends like these…. |

Song Min-Soon, chief presidential secretary for security, was quoted as telling a forum last week that no other country in the world had staged more wars than the US.”The US has probably been involved in the largest number of wars in the history of mankind. If we leave our fate in the hands of the US just for the sake of falling in step with the international community, it would amount to giving up our own destiny,” Song was widely quoted as saying.

I seem to remember we (the US and a large international group of armed folks) pulled your sorry Korean asses out of the fire a couple decades ago.  I’m all for pulling out of your country and letting KJI have his way with you.  But don’t call us begging for help.

When you get right down to it, we’re also one of the oldest standing governments on the planet, too, since almost everyone else has had big overturning revolutions or complete government function changes since 1776. As actual, sustained governments go, there are only one or two current countries which have managed anything like our longevity under their current form of government. Almost all of Europe, for example.

He also shows a rather startling lack of historical perspective, since there are a lot of other countries that have been involved in one or another armed conflict at a much higher rate than even the US has managed (or have been under the thumbs of other countries which conquered them, making the entire question a bit silly).

I would love for us to have that distinction, but I’m pretty sure England and France have been in far more wars than the US. And that’s just against each other. If you total all the wars they’ve been in against others, well, that’s a lot of wars.
The problem with lefties is that they absolutely ignore any historical accuracy. You have to keep reminding them that history didn’t start 1/2001.

I don’t expect gratitude from all the countries we’ve freed and kept free, but I would at least like the benefit of the doubt.
