Blogging the Fijian Junta |

Interesting interview from Australia’s ABC radio, blogged about on Hitting Metal With A Hammer

HILL: What’s so wrong about it? They’re just engaging in some free speech, which is protected by the Fiji Constitution?

LEWENI: What paid to go around and saying bad things about people and speculating? To you that’s right? If that’s right, then I don’t think we should continue this conversation, bye.

Interview ends

Major Neumi Leweni, Fiji Military Forces spokesman, there, talking (for a little while) about the Fijian state’s hunt-to-interrogate service for Fijian bloggers. Guess the new post-coup military rule doesn’t like being talked about.vp_house.JPG

Hey, I blogged from Fiji last month! If you want me, Leweni, I’m in Canada. ;)

It’s a serious worry, and the sort of thing our Prime Minister of New Zealand should be speaking out against. As Murray points out though, it would be slightly amusing in a way since Mrs Clark so looks down on we bloggers!

This attack on liberty is very much directed toward a minority of the politically interested though, I’d say. The computer to rugby grounds ratio, in my Fiji experience, is a damn sight lower than ours.

    Yes those pesky bloggers.
Without them I would not have heard that her husband Peter Davis was stopped at LAX following some kind of George Michael inciudent.
I guess the word about the sexual proclivities of “Panty Slut Boy” Minister David Benson-Pope would have been quite so well known either.
Or that Dear leader herself is a very good Friend of Dorothy.
That’s the trouble with pesky bloggers.
They tend to pass on information that those in power would like to see suppressed and the MSM doesn’t have the balls or legal proof to print.

True, as far as it goes.

And, contra ‘The Cult of the Amateur’ previously posted about, bloggers are constantly the very ones who catch the MSM at error. The fake hurricane photo in Northland last week, for example.

Few Shire Network News podcasts go by before that show points out yet another major example.
