A Privilege | November 24th, 2007
In his concession speech (video available at the link), John Howard mentioned that it has been a privilege to serve as the Prime Minister of Australia for the last 11 and a half years.
From the perspective of an outsider to Australian politics, it has been our privilege to have such a stalwart, plain spoken, and staunch ally at the helm of one of our strongest allies.
Godspeed John Howard, and many, many thanks.
I join Mr. Howard in wishing Mr. Rudd and his incoming government the best of luck.
Now don’t go and muck things all up, Kev.

Was amused to hear Mr Howard say in that speech “..people..” when he was supposed to say “Peter Costello.” Old habits die hard. :)

I only hope John Howard can leave office with the thanks of a grateful nation.
I think his dignified speech shows he can.
He went down to fighting to the bitter end.
Losing is seat in bennnelong won’t be a further humiliation, but a process to allow a clean break.
At Howard’s stage in life, i feel some time with the wife and kids his on. Then he can write his memoirs.
And then do something on the world stage.
Howard deserves a richly rewarded next chapter in his life.
