- What the Obama campaign did was deliberate, not the results of mere incompetence. It was a deliberate disabling of default security functions of the AVS software that matches cardholder account information on file with information provided to the online form and immediately flags any discrepancies. Any person reading this can verify this point simply by trying to make an online purchase through, say Amazon, but intentionally entering a Zip Code that doesn’t match the one on file with their credit card company - you’ll get an immediate ‘bounce’ informing you that there’s a problem.

- The system they designed and implemented provides a simple bypass to excessive individual donation limits, as well as allowing prohibited foreign donations, while exponentially degrading the possibility an audit to detect these abuses. Detecting abuse of this system using pre-paid debit cards is virtually impossible.

- The AVS credit card verification system is designed to detect and prevent thieves stealing someone else’s credit card number and using it - but not from preventing someone who desires to do so from pushing a lot of money through the system willingly using either their own card or anonymous pre-paid debit cards.

- This was done by professionals who fully understand how online credit card transaction processing works, they had to understand it to set it up in the first place, and have it function at all. Any statements from the campaign trying to confuse the situation by stating “maybe this” or “maybe that” describing “alternate theories” about how transaction processing works are nothing but lies, spin, and misdirection.

Again, this was deliberate, and could be “fixed” in about 15 minutes, if they chose to do so. And it would take that long only if the webmaster applying the “fix” took a coffee break in the middle of doing so.
