The article doesn’t specify methods, but personal sampling probably isn’t an ‘accepted’ research methodology. At any rate, the article lacks any references to ‘musty basement’ or ‘piney’ properties of the sample, although I’m sure they were just angling for the genetics research grant funding with the germination experiments.
It’s notable, the interest taken by JWF and Ace. I wasn’t aware they were so fascinated by . . . academic follow-up on field archeology. But sometimes the level and sources of interest in this sort of thing can be downright surprising.
